The UCN Alumni Association
In the beginning there was been2nene....
Until earlier this year responsibility for the UCN Alumni Association fell to various members of staff at UCN. No one at UCN was responsible for the alumni as their only, or even main role. This resulted in a half-hearted approach to contact with the Alumni and several poorly organised events aimed at bridging the divide.
The reason I began this web site in spring 2000 was to make sure I kept in contact with those people I still knew from Nene, and maybe found a few people I'd lost along the way. It has since turned into a rather large collection of pictures, memorabilia and contact details that is visited by more than 2500 individuals each month (and still growing).
Eventually the Director of Corporate Affairs and Marketing at UCN, Gerald Bowers, tracked me down after seeing a notice in the Chronicle and Echo placed by David Coxon, who was instrumental in keeping this site going when I was ready to throw in the towel. I met with Gerald and subsequently took on the role of setting up and managing the official UCN Alumni web site.

The Next Stage
Gerald Bowers and I agree that any Alumni Association should be run by the Alumni itself. In order to do this a committee has been formed and a member of staff at UCN, Sarah Butterworth, is employed on a part time basis to get the alumni situation under control. I will be working with Sarah and the other committee members to develop relations with, and events for, the alumni. Of course I've never run an Alumni Association before and want your ideas for what you would like to see us do. Please visit the UCNAA web site and see what you think, perhaps even consider how you might be able to help. |
